Program Overview:


The three-day conference will focus on how to evaluation and manage patients with vestibular disorders. The course is led by MUSC's Habib R. Rizk, MD, MSc; Rebecca English OTR/L, PT, MSR, DPT; Elizabeth Ploth, AuD, CC-A; and Michael Teixido, MD of Thomas Jefferson University, University of Pennsylvania, Delaware Otologic Medicine and Surgery Fellowship. Guest faculty include Jeffrey P. Staab, MD, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN; Janene Holmberg, PT, DPT, Intermountain Health, Murray, UT; and Megan Kobel, AuD, PhD, CCC-A, University of Arizona. 

The course will provide current knowledge and best practices in serving patients with vestibular disorders. A hands-on lab will cover the clinical and paraclinical evaluation of patients with dizziness and the basic therapy principles for various vestibular disorders. The course suits all skill levels and offers in-person and virtual lectures.

Conference Objectives:

Upon completion of this conference, participants should be better able to:

  • Evaluate comprehensively a patient with dizziness. ‌
  • Assess the importance and prevalence of vestibular migraine as a cause of dizziness.
  • Detect and treat atypical forms of BPPV.
  • Diagnose and manage Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness (PPPD)
  • Discuss cortical processing of space and motion information and the practical clinical implications of vestibular relativity.
  • Discuss assessment of vestibular thresholds and implications for diagnosis and management of vestibular disorders.

Target Audience:

The target audience for the conference include the following: Otolaryngologists, Audiologists, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Neurologists, Internists, Family Practitioners, Pediatricians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, VNG/ENG Technicians
